Starting Our Concept Map

Hi everyone!

I hope all of you are having a good week! I think we should start using the blog and working on our concept maps since those are due on Sunday! But anyway here is what I am thinking so far along the lines of the concept map and our big project:

I think the easiest  online software for our concept map is going to be Bubbl.us because it's free and doesn't require us to sign up for a free trial!

The only idea I have for our big project is to have the students come up with a plan to build a greenhouse. I think that could be a good starting point, however I don't know what you are all thinking! If you all have different ideas that great! I don't just wanna go with my idea because it was the first one put out there.

What are you guys thinking for our big project??

  1. Hey guys!
Cora, thanks for setting up the blog and getting this started! I'm good with using Bubbl.us and I really like the greenhouse idea. If we do Greenhouse as our Main/Big Project, some of the topics around it could be types of greenhouses, what they do, the history of them, and gardening in the greenhouses.

    1. I like the topics around the greenhouse! I was kind of skeptical because I wasnt sure if we could turn it into a big enough project but it sounds like we could!

  2. Hello Cora!
I actually think the greenhouse idea is really good. While in elementary we had a greenhouse that we tended to and would measure growths of plants, etc. I think the greenhouse is a good idea to help students learn of various ideas such as responsibility and the sciences. I am still researching other ideas but I think this is a good starting point.

  3. Also, I just checked out Bubbl.us and it costs $6 per month after a 30-free trial for a team account. It's only free for single users.
Do we have to use one of the sites that she told us to use? Or could we use one that isn't listed because Prezi could be really good for this if we can do that.

    1. I think that if you make an account by yourself you can share your map with others!

  4. She didnt explicitly say to use one of the sites she gave us. But I will try making a mind map (thats what they call them on bubbl.us) and then share it with you all and give you access to edited it and see if that works with the free account! So once you all create a free account comment what email you used so I can share it with you!

Thanks Cora, hopefully we can get this going! Tomorrow, I am going to post this blog's URL to E-learning so we get our points.

  6. Okay great!
I just put in 6 starting subcategories on Bubbl.us. Feel free to add or modify any of them, but I think that all we need to turn in this Sunday is the Big Project (Greenhouse) and our main points for it (listed around Greenhouse on the website). Let me know what you guys think so we can submit it to E-learning ASAP. Thanks!

    1. Hey Rachel!
I just logged into bubbl.us and I didn't see any changes to the map on my end! I have no idea how to work this website. Which 6 subtopics do you have? After I see what 6 you have I can tell you if I can think of anything else to add!

    2. Also I think if I read the description right we are submitting it by posting it to a new blog post!

  7. You're right, I read the description wrong, oops!
    So far, I have...
    1. Greenhouse Effect
    2. History of Greenhouses
    3. Purpose/Function of Greenhouses
    4. Plants in Greenhouses
    5. Care of Greenhouses
    6. Makeup of Greenhouses
I feel like we could combine a few of these to make 4 subcategories, that way when we work on this later, we all have one suptopic to research!

    1. I like those! I think we could definitely combined probably plants and care into one. And also probably makeup and purpose/function! But I think for now it looks good!! We can also research what plants grow the best in greenhouses. Like for example do food plants do okay in greenhouses or better naturally.

Rachel do you know how to do a new post on here instead of just commenting? I think when we have the map finished we should summit it by creating a new post so she can easily find it!
To do a post if you are logged into blogger/gmail on the top right of this page next to your email should be a new post tab. I believe if you click there you should be able to compose a new post and publish it!

    2. Hi ya'll. I've read through all of the comments and I agree with everything you two have been discussing. The topics are great and I will do my best to figure out the concept map, I'm just not sure how to use the site.
