Lesson Plan #3 - Gamification

Hey friends! This is the post we will be using to communicate what we need for the 3rd lesson plan over Gamification of our project. Last week, we submitted our Revised Concept Map on our blog, just under a different post name so we could get a head start on LP3. For the Gamification Lesson Plan, we will be submitting this on Taskstream but individually. There is a presentation that we need to look at before starting our lesson plan and here it is: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1xLmNDN77urX2objQCWPYTV0mXU3EdDSIq0JbwxMz12w/edit?usp=sharing

We need to use a technology tool from either the class or one we’ve found on your own. We need to create a “sample" of what students will create as part of the gamification aspect OR what you will create and provide to students. We each need to take one lesson concept from the larger PBL Concept Map for the Gamification lesson. The requirements, how-to’s, and examples for parts of the assignment are listed in the Assignment Instructions under Module 7 in Elearning, be sure to look at all of that! Thanks guys, and Happy Lesson Planning!Rachel Bontrager

Revised Concept Map

Hello Everyone!
This will be the post we will use for the Revised Concept Map! We all got together TODAY to finish and submit our Collaborative Podcast, and even had time to complete next week's concept map assignment.
To recap, we talked about what we've done so far and where we plan to go with the gardening/greenhouse project that we are doing. We decided that we want our students to research, learn, and create a plan to building a big greenhouse (like the one on campus). Following that, the hands-on part of the project will be the students creating their own mini greenhouse out of cups, tape, soil, and a plant seed of some sort to watch it grow. The way we will assess the students will be evaluating their research that they do on the greenhouses and then also having them write an essay (in their own words) about how the cup-greenhouses they made are both similar and different from the normal greenhouses that you see.
Below, I have attached the new Revised Concept Map! Let me know what you guys think, and if any changes should be made!

Collaborative Podcast Week of 2/18

Hey Everyone!!

I'm just making this post to check in for this week! This week we are continuing the work on our podcast! Will we be meeting this Thursday 2/21 from 1pm-3pm (that the time the room is reserved for) in 1404 in Sangren! See you there!

Thinking ahead to next week we are each individually creating our third lesson plan for the semester using taskstream! This is another assignment we are submitting individually but we have to communicate because all of us have to have lesson plans on a different part of our project! This is something that I think we can discuss on Thursday! Along with our LP 3 next we have to post an updated concept map on our blog! I think it will be easy to update the concept map on Thursday as well. We will still have to have a post next week to show we have discussed this however I don't think it is bad to start thinking about it now!

I hope you all had a great weekend and I will see you on Thursday!

Collaborative Podcast

Hello Everybody!

I figured that since the Collaborative Podcast isn't due until 2/24 (next Sunday), we could get a jump on it early since its a little bit bigger assignment! This looks like a lot of words, but I promise it isn't as much as you think.:)

Requirements
- 3-5 minutes
- Include different aspects of our greenhouse project. So, 1. why we are using Project-based Learning, 2. what has been done so far, and 3. where you are headed in the big project. (one thing for each of us to discuss!)
- Include at least 2 concepts from the textbook
- Include background music, louder at the beginning and fade to lower volume before we talk, keep the music on while we speak just at a low volume, and fade into louder to conclude.
- It must be in an MP3 file and submitted in a Drop Box in Module #6 on ELearning

Below I copy and pasted what Sharon put in the instructions and made it a little easier to follow and find!

The How-To's:
- Open Audacity. Go to the Project Menu and select “New Audio Track” (For newer version, you start by clicking on the Record button).  Record your script.
- Minor pauses and umms can be edited out! To do this, use the cursor tool to highlight the area you would like deleted then press the delete key on your keyboard.
- Choose your music and sound effects. Click on the Project menu and “Import Audio”. (For newer version, go to File, Import, and then find your music to import).
- After importing background music, you can use the fading tool from the top middle in the tool selection area in the top left of your screen. (For newer version, it is found in group on the right of the Record button). Click once where you would like the music to start fading out and then click where you would like the music to be faded out. At the second point you can pull down and the second part of the track will get thinner.  Do same for the end of podcast.
- The vocal track can be moved to fit in the center of your audio track by using the move tool in the bottom middle of your tools. Click anywhere on your track and move it left or right to fit into your background music.
- Once completed everything, click on the File menu and click “export as MP3”. (For newer version, go to File, Export and then choose at the button of the window the MP3 files).  Submit your MP3 file in Drop Box in Module #6.

Combining Podcast Files - 1 group member will collect the rest of the podcast files. The other group members need to export their portion as an MP3 file. Then attach it to an email. The group member putting them together needs to save the file from the email (not open), and then import the file into their audacity file. It will be automatically added to the program in a new row. The group member putting it together needs to move the imported files in the correct spot using the Time Shift tool.

I'm not very familiar with Audacity so I'm not sure which is easier: doing it separately and one of us putting our own pieces together or just sitting down somewhere together and doing it that way. Sharon explained in the instructions page for this assignment the different aspects that we can talk on. She listed 3 of them and I listed them above, under requirements. Luckily for us, we only have 3 people in our group so I'm thinking that we could each talk on an aspect for about 1 minute and 15-30 seconds (ish), we will be in good shape! I'm also thinking that since regular podcasts aren't scripted and below I pasted something Sharon touched on in the instructions about a script. If we do our own rough 'bullet point script' and run it by each other, we'll be good to go!
Let me know your thoughts! I think that if we can set up a time do this maybe this weekend or during the week next week, we won't need to worry about the deadline and what not.

Week of 2/4 Taskstream Lesson Plan

Hey Everyone!!

I hope we all had a relaxing weekend and snow days. This week we don't have a group assignment that we are turning in together, however we do have to communicate regarding our lesson plans! Each of us have to create a lesson plan on Taskstream that gets our students researching one of the areas that we have on our concept map. Each of our lesson plans have to be on a different topic and the final product of the students (what they do to present the information they learned) has to be different!!

Lets use this post & the comments to discuss which topics we are doing for our lessons!! Let each other know in the comments what subtopic your lesson plan is on and what you are going to have the students do to present their information!
